Farmers’ Salaries

All of the farmers who tend and nurture the land make a living wage. They also have access to health care and receive paid time off.

Herbal Pest Repellents

Using indigenous techniques, farmers create potent mixtures of chillis, garlic, tobacco, neem and ginger to spray pest-infected plants

The Seeds For 5 Pollinator Crops

Farmers plant Marigold and Sunflowers to attract pollinators.

Seeds for 3 Trap Crops

Farmers plant Castor, Sorghum, and Sesbania to attract insects and urge them away from the cotton.

The Seeds for 10 Cover Crops

Farmers plant Blackgram, Greengram, Sunhemp, and Groundnut to increase the biodiversity of the farm, aid in soil regeneration, and diversify their income.

Drip Irrigation

Farmers set up drip irrigation for minimal water wastage and each plant gets the exact amount that it needs.

Compost Bins

Using worms, manure, farm waste and more, the farmers create rich compost to nourish the soil.

Natural Fertilizers

Using native cow manure, neem oil and more, the farmers introduce a diversity of bacteria into the soil.

Your Questions Answered:

The Land Steward Club membership covers the costs of farmers’ salaries, seeds for pollinators, herbal remedies, and cotton plants on over 4000 sq ft of land. As the seeds grow into cotton plants, the members watch it grow, learning about regenerating the land and ourselves along the way. After the cotton harvest, you will follow the cotton as it transforms into fabric and ultimately, dresses. Along with Christy, you will pick the silhouettes, prints, fabrics, and details for a member-exclusive capsule collection. You put your stamp on the dresses your membership helps grow. And then you get it back. Christy Dawn buys the cotton from your plot for a guaranteed $240.

Unlike any other clothing brand, Christy Dawn works directly with our partners at Oshadi Collective to determine the cost of cultivating acreage for regenerative cotton. Then, Christy Dawn pays for all costs upfront, and Christy Dawn dresses are made with the cotton the farm yields. Change is a process, not a product. By setting up the cotton farm like this, farmers have more flexibility to focus on regenerating the ecosystem, and members have the opportunity to deepen their relationship with the land and community growing their clothing.

The Land Stewardship Club is a model of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) for clothing. In a CSA, the members share the cost of farming the land, and they also share the harvest.

Change is a process, not a product. By setting up the cotton farm as a CSA, farmers have more flexibility to focus on regenerating the ecosystem, and members have the opportunity to deepen their relationship with the land and community growing their clothing.

Nature is self-healing — regenerative farming fosters the plants and soil’s innate ability to build the health and resilience of their ecosystem. By using native seeds and holistic, indigenous farming practices, farmers can revitalize soil and draw down carbon. Regenerative farming not only heals the land’s immediate ecosystem but helps heal Mother Earth from climate change. Christy Dawn has worked with Oshadi Collective for over seven years and has seen firsthand how the soil, plants, community, and we have benefited from regenerative practices.

The Land Steward Club is a new take on the Land Stewardship. After 4 years of inviting the Christy Dawn community to invest in plots of land from the farm, we decided we wanted to go deeper. Like the Land Stewardship, the core of the club is coming together as a community to regenerate the land. But the club goes beyond previous iterations and brings members along the entire journey from farm to closet, allowing for more intimacy and reciprocity. The Club includes more regular updates for members on the Christy Dawn App, member-exclusive merch, and an opportunity to get involved in the design process and help Christy design a dress.
