The Roaming Collector

The hues, textures and effortless silhouettes of Natasha Zoe Garrett’s curated Roam Vintage collections evoke vast deserts and far-off marketplaces. Her gifts go beyond an immaculate eye for the perfect vintage piece — there’s an artful precision with which she arranges and displays these treasures. A natural forager and creator, Natasha brings often simplistic, well-loved and worn relics of the past into the light and shares them as wearable works of art.

Tell us about yourself!

I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. I grew up going to flea markets and antique shops. We didn’t have much money growing up so I had to get creative from a young age when it came to personal style. I’ve always felt that the things we wear are an extension and reflection of our inner worlds and I’ve always loved playing around with mine.

I moved to New York at nineteen to pursue a career in the fashion industry. After ten years working in the freelance wardrobe styling world, I felt the undeniable pull to move away from mainstream fashion and into vintage and sustainable clothing.

I’ve lived in Los Angeles for the last five years while cultivating and growing my own vintage clothing shop. After a couple of years selling online and in markets, I’m happy to announce that I now have my own showroom, located in the West Adams neighborhood.

What was the catalyst for your interest in curating vintage?

I’ve always been drawn to things with a history behind them. There’s a soul that lives within each vintage and handmade piece and it fills me with joy to find them and offer them new homes.

You have such a keen eye, what inspires you most?

I’m genuinely inspired by the world around me. I’m inspired by tradition, craftsmanship, design, and the natural world. I love traveling as a way to broaden my horizons and as a source of inspiration for all that I do.

“There’s a soul that lives within each vintage and handmade piece and it fills me with joy to find them and offer them new homes.”

How would you describe your personal style?

My California roots and the time I spent growing up visiting my grandparents in New Mexico have deeply informed my personal style. I love earth tones, natural fibers, “un-fussy” pieces. My personal style is down to earth and a little bit funky with nods to the south west and seventies California.

How do you incorporate sustainability in your personal life?

I try to be as intentional as possible with my choices in what I consume and how I interact with the world around me. Collecting and selling vintage has shown me just how much beauty already exists on our planet, so I try to fill my life and my home with mostly vintage or second hand clothing and objects. Aside from vintage I try to only support sustainable brands. I’d much rather have less pieces that are higher quality than a whole wardrobe filled with pieces that lack intention and heart.

“I’ve always felt that the things we wear are an extension and reflection of our inner worlds and I’ve always loved playing around with mine.”

How do you Honor Mother Earth?

I try my best to tread the Earth lightly and in deep reverence of its beauty.
