Welcome to my Closet with Charlie Hourston
Charlie Hourston is a force to be reckoned with.
We first crossed paths four years ago on a Christy Dawn shoot, and since then we’ve been lucky enough to watch her take the world by storm. Brimming with passion, a quick wit, and a megawatt smile, she’s a model, stylist and works at the helm of her own brand, Charlie Beads. One overcast day in August, we paid a visit to Charlie as she styled pieces from Early Autumn with the vintage treasure trove that is her closet. In between outfit changes we discussed her favorite memory from a Christy Dawn shoot, her outfit uniform, and the religious experience that is shopping IRL.

What feeling do you aim for when getting dressed?
I want to feel like the best version of myself, but also feel like I can easily move around & do things. You never know what is going to happen…

What do you reach for when you don’t know what to wear?
I mentioned before that I’m a uniform person, so that is usually a combination of vintage jeans or japanese denim, a white or navy t-shirt, a button up, ballet flats. That’s kind of my combination! I love having an endless amount of all of those things so that it (my outfit) always feels fresh.

What’s your favorite memory from a Christy Dawn shoot?
I’ll always remember the first time I ever worked with you. We went on this roadtrip to Arizona, and I didn’t really know what I was getting into, I had no idea how long everyone had been friends, how amazing this company was… We drove to this river, and we had some things we were going to shoot there. (After shooting) everyone started taking off their clothes and going swimming. I was like I’m confused, are we not working? What’s going on here? Who are these people and how did I find myself here? I’m so lucky. I knew that (experiences like these) existed but I hadn’t found it yet. Everyone was just so comfortable and free. I was just obsessed with that, and I thought wow I hope I can be friends with these people for a long time… And that was four years ago, so it worked out.
