“No matter how a piece of clothing looks, it cannot be considered beautiful if, in producing it, the environment is destroyed or people are exploited. When deciding on what to wear, we all have an obligation to consider how it’s made and the impact that process has on the planet and its people.”
The rayon (eco dry clean recommended) we used for this dress is rescued deadstock fabric that was left over from a larger fashion house. By using deadstock fabric we save hundreds of thousands of gallons of water annually and keep the planet clean.
“I love how much I learn here, and how beautiful the dress styles are. I feel really motivated to make sure they’re sewn as well as they possibly can be.”
Ana works both of the sewing machines used at Christy Dawn, the overlock and the single needle. She says she likes both because each dress needs the combined work of the two machines to come together. I heard that Ana’s specialty is the Dawn and Paloma dresses, and I could definitely see what she meant—she was working on the most beautiful Dawn when I talked to her!
